The mission of this project is to educate local communities and tourists that live near or visit the beaches near Las Baulas National Park about the importance of the beaches to Pacific leatherback turtles, and to reduce artificial lights from homes and businesses in the surrounding communities. The project director, Dr. Pamela Plotkin, founded and coordinates this project. Amigos de Las Baulas is a project created as a partnership among individuals, groups, companies, organizations and businesses concerned about Pacific leatherback sea turtles, particularly those that nest in Las Baulas National Park, Costa Rica.
